We liked Durango, Colorado so much that we stayed there for two days. It didn’t hurt that the snow was falling up at Durango Mountain Resort (about thirty miles away). This college town sits right on the Animas river with a bustling Main Street. Here are a few of our favorite stops:

Derailed Saloon
725 Main Avenue

We dropped into here our first night and didn’t leave. A fun bartender and eccentric characters makes the Derailed Saloon a worthy stop on any Durango bar crawl. And they slapped our sticker onto the chairlift.

Durango Joe’s
732 East College Drive

It’s got free wifi, ample parking for an RV, and about the friendliest evening staff we’ve ever come across. There’s also an drive-thru Durango Joe’s on your way to the mountain.

Gazpacho Restaurant
31 East 2nd Avenue

While the service and the tacos failed to impress Tuscon born and raised Coco, she couldn’t argue with the Tuesday special — $1.50 tacos and Tecate beers.

Steamworks Brewery
801 East 2nd Avenue

These guys love beer. We spent an evening posted up at the bar sampling just about every flavor. Their Thursday special is the best deal in Durango. Buy a glass for $7.00 and get refills for only a buck. Burgers are outstanding if you’re hungry.

Durango Recreation Center
2700 Main Avenue

We needed showers and for $5.75 apiece we got them  — and also access to the gym, lap pool, lazy river, hot tube, and a waterslide

Backcountry Experience
1205 Camino Del Rio

Swing by their larger store downtown or on the mountain if you need gear and helpful salespeople to get you back out on the slopes.
