Day 75
Location: Sandpoint, ID
Resorts: 36 out of 40
This is as close to the Canadian border as this trip is going to get (although stay tuned next season for 100DOW: The Canada Edition). And boy, did Schweitzer ever deliver up on the goods. To be fair, it’s hard to have a bad day when you show up on Local’s Apprecation Day — which roughly translated means, “show up before 11 and get a free ticket.” Plus, big, fat flakes were dropping in the parking lot. So even before you put on your boots, you know it’s going to be a fun day.
All the best snow and best runs were off Great Divide. When we got bored of tearing down Whiplash and Australia, we took off to the Idyle Use T-Bar which brings you up and over to the far Outback Bowl. Tons of fun trails back here. Apparently the views from the top of Lakeside are supposed to breathtaking, but all I managed to see was the board under my feet. Total white out up here, the kind that gives you a touch of vertigo. I managed to grab a few nice turns and then found a few trees to shore up my sightline.
There’s a lot of territory to cover at Schweitzer. With cheap season passes, the lake, and the town of Sandpoint, this ski area has jumped to the top of my short list of where to spend next season. Plus, it’s close to Canada. You can be on the Powder Highway within hours. Stay tuned for next year.
